What is Harmonic Mixing?
Harmonic mixing is an advanced technique used by top DJs to mix tracks that are in the same or related keys. When you mix tracks harmonically, your transitions sound smooth and musical, as if the songs were written together. It eliminates the dissonance (clashing sounds) that often occurs when mixing songs in incompatible keys.
The Camelot Wheel
The Camelot Wheel is a color-coded system that makes figuring out which keys are compatible incredibly easy. It looks like a clock face, numbered from 1 to 12. Each number has two parts: A (Minor) and B (Major).
8A→9A(Compatible)
How to Use It
- Stay in the same key: Mixing 8A to 8A perfectly matches the harmony.
- Move +/- 1 Hour: Mixing 8A to 9A (up 1) or 7A (down 1) works beautifully.
- Change Mode (A to B): Mixing 8A to 8B (relative major) keeps the same notes but changes the "vibe".
Energy & Mood
Beyond keys, consider the energy level. A smooth harmonic transition might feel flat if the energy drops too suddenly. Use our database to filter by both Camelot Key and Energy Level to find the perfect next track.
