What is Track Finder?
Track Finder is a harmonic mixing database and DJ key finder. It answers one question: which tracks will mix cleanly with the one I am playing? Select a key on the Camelot wheel and Track Finder lists every song in a compatible key — filterable by BPM range and genre — from a catalogue of over 577,000 tracks across 41 genres. It runs free in the browser and is operated from Düsseldorf, Germany.
It is not a song-recognition app: Track Finder does not identify a song from a recording. It finds the next track, not the current one.
How harmonic mixing works, in four rules
- Same code (8A → 8A): the safest blend — both tracks share every note of the scale.
- One step (8A → 7A or 9A): a smooth key change; the scales differ by a single note.
- Relative key (8A → 8B): minor to major with the same notes — a mood change, not a clash.
- Energy boost (8A → 10A): two steps up lifts the set; use it on a breakdown or a drum-only section.
The full theory — all 24 keys, Open Key notation, how key detection works and when to break the rules — is in the guide Harmonic Mixing Explained.

Frequently asked questions
- What is Track Finder?
- Track Finder is a free, browser-based harmonic mixing database for DJs. You pick a key on the Camelot wheel and it lists every track in a compatible key, filterable by BPM and genre, from a catalogue of over 577,000 songs. It is operated from Düsseldorf, Germany.
- Is Track Finder a song-recognition app like Shazam?
- No. Track Finder does not identify a song from a recording. It answers the opposite question: given a key and tempo, which tracks will mix with it harmonically. Song-recognition services such as Shazam, AHA Music or SongFinder solve a different problem.
- How does harmonic mixing with the Camelot wheel work?
- The Camelot wheel labels the 24 musical keys 1A–12A (minor) and 1B–12B (major). Tracks mix cleanly when their codes are the same, one step apart on the number (8A → 7A or 9A), or share the number with the other letter (8A → 8B). Moving +2 on the number (8A → 10A) is the energy-boost mix. Track Finder applies these rules automatically when you select a key.
- Where do the keys and BPM values come from?
- Each track carries a Camelot key, a BPM value and a genre in the database. Key and tempo come from automatic analysis, which agrees with a trained listener on roughly 80–90 % of typical electronic tracks — always check a surprising match by ear.
- Does Track Finder cost anything or need an install?
- The harmonic search is free and runs in any modern browser; no download is required. Track Finder can also be added to the home screen as a web app. A free account adds playlists and play history.
- What else can Track Finder do?
- Besides the key-compatible track search, Track Finder publishes a harmonic mixing knowledge base (Learn), hosts harmonic DJ mixes, and offers a loop slicer that cuts a track into beat-accurate eight-bar loops with separated stems for live, in-key mashups.
